CSI: Holiday Home
C.S.I. Case Studies & Ideologies
Installation: Holiday Home – An alternative space to enjoy holidays
Venue: The Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadephia
Designer: UN Studio
“… an experimental attempt to create a space liberated from the constrictive norms of modern design.”
“…formulated the basic structure, a warped sculptural form, by taking a typical house and expanding the wall areas and the gabled roof in six directions.”
“The Spartan (bare) look of the form helps to direct the viewer’s attention to the complex shape of the space.”
“Visitors who walk around and inside the installation discover surprising views, and the shadows cast in various directions create unexpected perspectives.”
“When the lighting conditions change the atmosphere of the space, the perception of time is lost. The perception of the passage of days or seasons are seemingly liberated from the confines of daily life and living space, becoming a different rhythm which is like the abstract feeling one senses when on vacation.”
“… offers an unconventional environment to enjoy holidays.”

CSI: "Green" Residential Lobby, Shenzhen
C.S.I. Case Studies & Ideologies
"Green" Residential Lobby, Shenzhen
by One Plus Partnership
“…lobby of an apartment inspired by Chinese culture…”
“…bamboo plant, present in the majority of the architectural manifestations of the country, has been selected as the spinal cord for the design of this space…”
“Bamboo is a metaphor for strength and flexibility.”
“Its linear shape inspires the design of this residential lobby, where the color green predominates and is intensified by special lighting.”

CSI: Supple Bamboo Bridge
C.S.I. Case Studies & Ideologies
Exploration in a city: Supple Bamboo Bridges
Installation, 1619 Silver Lake Boulevard, Los Angeles
Designer: Workshop Levitas
"... an installation to demonstrate 'lightness'..."
"... a 'monster' over the water..."
Exploration in a city: Supple Bamboo Bridges
Installation, 1619 Silver Lake Boulevard, Los Angeles
Designer: Workshop Levitas
"... an installation to demonstrate 'lightness'..."
"... a 'monster' over the water..."
"... a stage where water, aquatic life and visitors can all be involved."
"...protects, guides and provides a utilitarian purpose..."
"While crossing the bridge, visitors can see through the grid-like bamboo structure and view the ever-changing environment around them."
"Despite the tendency of bamboo to change from green and flexible to brown and hard, the designers were able to draw out the unique characteristics of the material to fit the overall spatial composition."
